SIA’s Associate concept is based on trust in the individual and recognizes our commitment to ensure a positive working environment. By joining together as a team, we can best accomplish our mutual goals—assuring the success of the Company and providing greater opportunities and long-term job security for Associates and their families. We do not believe that a third party, such as a union, is necessary at SIA.
Our Philosophy & Your Rights
We recognize that our Associates are essential to providing a world class line of automobiles. Because of this, we are committed to providing you with competitive wages, benefits and working conditions, as well as open and honest communications. We have always recognized and respected the rights and freedom of each Associate to organize or refrain from organizing for the purpose of collective bargaining or other mutual aid and protection. However, we believe all Associates should be treated fairly whether they have chosen collective representation or not. For this reason, we believe in the principle of parity. We believe the rights of Associates can best be achieved where there is a just, direct and cooperative relationship between SIA and our Associates. In accordance with SIA’s Ten Principles, and our common mission in everything we do at SIA, we feel that labor unions are unnecessary at SIA because: • SIA accepts the responsibility to continuously maintain equitable pay and working conditions for all Associates regardless of union membership or affiliation. • SIA seeks to recognize each individual Associate's skills, abilities, accomplishments and needs and believes Associates prosper when there is a close working relationship between SIA and our Associates. • SIA offers its Associates an open-door policy to respond to Associate issues or to review most disciplinary decisions. Associates also have access to the Peer Review Panel Policy and Guaranteed Fair Treatment Policy. • While Associates have the right to join a union, membership often requires the payment of costly initiation fees, monthly dues, special assessments, and possible fines. • Strikes, boycotts, jurisdictional disputes, slowdowns, and other disruptions are possible where there is collective bargaining, and these potential disruptions adversely affect the availability, continuity and cost service to our end customers. SIA strives very hard to establish a work environment that is direct and open, where Associates’ opinions are valued and heard, and Associates are rewarded with competitive pay and benefits. • Therefore, SIA believes that the interests of its Associates and our overall community are best served without possible interference by an outside third party. Our dream is to provide all of America with our “Made in Indiana” products, and even to ship them all around the world. For SIA, that is not an impossible dream. SIA’s Ten Principles below will help us achieve this dream: 1. SIA is made up of its people – We are the corporation 2. Together, we must beat the competition 3. Job security is important to all of us 4. Quality is the top priority 5. We must eliminate Muda (waste) throughout the Company 6. Kaizen means searching for a better way 7. Each of us should strive to be a multitalented person 8. The spirt of SIA is enthusiastic involvement 9. Open communications build mutual trust 10. We build Hoosier pride into every vehicle If you ever have any questions about our philosophy, unions, or anything else, please speak with an Associate Relations representative.
